We are looking at completely redoing the bike jump park at Browns River in the next week or so. If you are interested in having a say or helping out. Let me know. Also... I want feedback on what other sort of track we should look at developing in the Kingston area. Also looking at one for Margate. Nows your chance to have a say!!

I have talked to council about a total professional revamp on a number of occasions but kept stalling and have never heard from them again...
Presume from your sig. that your on council in some capacity? We're still keen to be involved, but gave up trying to push things through.

Frenchy, we can't afford the $10,000 or so you are asking. I talked to local riders and designers and they thought you were over-priced. You've talked to me once and I'm not stalling, we are getting things done. Like I said, we are looking at other sites/options, it will depend on feedback from other local riders. cheers, Troy Williams Community Development Officer (Youth) Kingborough Council Ph: 03 62118135 E: twilliams@kingborough.tas.gov.au http://www.yok.com.au

Troy,
The reality of my quote was I personally stood to make absolutely nothing from the job- my interest was purely to provide a top quality riding spot where currently things were not going well at all. Once excavator time, staffing, and good surface dirt were accounted for that would be it for the quoted fee.
Good luck with the park, the spot has a heap of potential
Cheers
Simon

troy, I being a local rider of the kingston djs i realy think they need to be compleatly reedsinged compleatly from scrach. there are a huge amount of riders that live in the kingston/blackmans bay region and would want more places to ride and a cople of park type places. It is to much of a hasle for the riders down hear to go out to the new tolosa djs and downhill track because of the distance. although it is good to go out to tolosa ect once in a while its still not good enough for haveing nothing down hear. im not arguing im syimply puting my thoughts out there. simon french has done ALOT of hard work and effort to make tasmania such a great place to ride and for torists to come to tassie to ride and so on.. simon should be at the head of re- building these dirtjumps to make sure its a Good job just like the tolosa dirt jumps he re desingd just recently. the last time the council got involved with building dirtjumps it resolted in the djs that are there today (witch are a disaster not to mention a health risk) I dont know where you get your information form about asking the local riders if they thought simon was "over priced" witch frankly sounds like a heap of shit. the money simon is asking for is simply the most he would need for building the standed Jumps and tracks. I dont think I am the only one when i say kingston/blackmans bay NEEDS more trails/jumps ect.. in the end its just going to waist your (the council's) time and money because everywhere there are illgle tracks poping up all over the place. Juts thought i would leave you with somthing to think about. James.

The only man to get for the job is Frenchy. Look at the Tolosa dj's! A masterpiece! The Kingbrough dj's were never a sucess because they were very poorly designed right from the start. Kingston is well overdue a decient park and I hope something great happens soon!!

YES! Where abouts in Margate? Years were spent building trails at two locations at Dru Point. The first were mowed down when the dog excercise area was created ..the other set are down by the waters edge and not well frequented as they are pretty full on. A park in Margate would be well supported but keep in mind many of the riders down there are grommits (6 to about 13 or 14 years old) and not likely to comment on Council plans..

+1 for the idea of some jumps in Margate. But as it was already mention alot of the riders are beginners so it would be a good idea for some beginner jumps as well as some better ones. The jumps that are down buy the water were a great setup and very nicely shaped back in the day but they copped a hammering a year or so ago when some beginners decided to make them smaller and they destroyed a couple of lines. So if anything goes ahead i know of a few people that would be happy to help build some decent jumps. But there will also need to be some smaller ones to stop a Repeat of what happened to the other ones. Edit - and as for Simon being over priced the quality of the trails he builds is Superb and any mountain biker will stand up of for Simon and tell you that what is does is exellent. The jumps at Kingston were never that good from the start be it from poor design or lack of space if you had someone like Simon involed in some way you know that the finished product will be quality.

+1. simon does great work, look at tolosa, clarence, and the jump park he and Dirtart did out at brighton! To frenchy: when you say that $10,000 includes staffing, does that mean it'd be dirt art crew only, and finished off whether or not volenteers showed up?

We have the excavator, labour and dirt, we would love some POSITIVE input into the reshaping. Chris Reed and Matt Davis and one other have had some great input, if anyone else would like to contribute let me know. We are constrained by insurance/safety in that area and have to have fence there, that really limits us. We would love to discuss other possible areas and future dev. Maybe Frenchy you could be involved in this? I have a budget of only $50000 for all of Kingborough - Taroona to Middleton and 35 000 people so can't spend $10 000 at that spot, which has limits. Another spot where we have more room and a bigger vision would be great. I didn't initiate the jumps there, just my job to get them fixed up. I will try to get back to everyone on Wed when I am back in the office. Keen to discuss Margate more. Cheers

Where abouts in Margate is the Council considering? Two locations seem logical: 1. The Margate OvalThe oval is a nice central location and close to where alot of the kids are riding already. On the flat block behind the Cricket Club and Fire Station would be great. Close to the School and keeps the oval as a focal recreation locale. The highly visable nature of this site would discourage anti-social behaviour. 2. Dru PointPerhaps close to the sewage ponds and dog excercise area? Not as visable as the oval and more of a ride to the location for many residents (Nierinna/Van Morey/Electrona). Still good option though. I'm currently living and working interstate (NT) but would love to see a facility built in my hometown. I noticed a growing number of (small) kids building jumps on the roadsides and on crown land... What do the locals need to do to ensure this happens?
