--- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---Just letting people know that some retard is putting barbed wire across tracks. Ran into some this arvo just off the side of the track that follows the ridgeline (after S57/rivulette). Something has got to be done about these assholes...
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---No good Chilli!
It must be the same sort of people who put up the fishing wire and the logs across tracks before... But you say it was just off the side? I'm confused... was it in the bushes or something? That doesn't sound too intentional as bad as your photos look...
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---As you go round the ridgeline, just where the houses finish there is a tight left hand bend there is an inside line that cuts the corner (down off the side of the track). I normally ride the inside line because the drainage rut on the main trail has become fairly deep. Anyway, the barbed wire was strung between 2 trees, just in that one spot! Rode it yesterday arvo and it was not there, then copped it this arvo.
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---Not cool at all. The sooner we get the whole riding situation sorted in Hobart the better. On Saturday morning I came across three spots where someone had definitely put logs across tracks to stop riders - after I lost you and the others chilli - rivulet and a couple of off-shoots fro mthe pipeline. It always seems to be in roughly the same places too. Do they really think this is the answer?
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---sabotage has been happening more and more, and seems to have picked up in the past couple of months, we've run into big rocks (and i mean big, pretty heavy for one person to lift alone - 15-20kg+) and tree branches on luge a couple of times recently, and a log across rivulet (admittedly not that big, but big enough it didn't get their on it's own). we got pulled over by a ranger at the bottom of radfords as we came onto the road for a chat, he said they've had talks to a few walkers, and warned an older guy with longer white/grey hair about creating obstructions, who sounds like a character we've run into before, wandering straight down the middle of the track, who didn't move aside, even though we'd slowed right down well before we got to him and then politely asked to pass...
anyone else had problems with a similar guy? also have you/will you report this to police?
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---THATS JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE
my son rides the mountain weekly and so do i what happens if some one really gets seriously hurt . the police really need to know about this . so we need to group together to legally put a stop to this the police need to visit houses in potential area talk to residence . pm me if support required
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---Have considered reporting it to the police, but I am not sure how much they would investigate it as riders are not legally meant to be riding there. Also thought about going to the Mercury and getting a story done, but am worried about the repercussions. It may force Cascades into trying to fence off the whole area. So not really sure what to do...
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---I don't see what the problem with riders riding most of the illegal tracks on the mountain... I mean I have never seen walkers on drops, s57, chillis, bus stop, or rivulet... The ridgeline track the goes along to the field near cascades is often popular with walkers, but surely a rider, or even a group of riders for that matter, really doesn't impact upon a walkers day?
In all seriousness, it won't be much use just reporting it and getting someone to blame. It'd be better to find out why they/he/she is doing it and work around (or push them out the way). Why is everyone against mountain bikers? Or even cyclists in general? We're meant to be saving the bloody planet by not using fuels and people STILL don't like being held up by people who actually get off their arse and ride around... This is a strange world...
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---I rode Rivulet, Drops, S56, S57 and Bus stop on saturday and didnt see anything. I've came across logs on some of bus stop before. But this is ridiculous.
Wouldn't going to the police possibly end up with losing access to these tracks? Same with the Mercury?
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---
Yeah that's what Chilli was saying... that because of legal reasons they will probably end up being fenced off..
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---So what can we do about it? Carry bolt cutters and chainsaw when we ride to remove obstacles?
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---James Bond had a thing on the front of his BMW that was perfectly the right height to cut through razor wire in a car park... wouldn't that be handy?
For reference I believe it was Tomorrow Never Dies...
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---by the way it was an Aston Martin
get it right
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---Rode those tracks too and didn't see a thing. We can't really ride the tracks as fast as we can now because of the unknown obstacles that might be just around the corner. An option might be to try and make these tracks legal? What do you guys think? Or are there some better alternatives? 09 IronHorse Sunday Elite.
Re: --- BARBED WIRE ACROSS TRACKS ---
i rode the same tracks too and didn't see any thing maybe if we go to the police they may put pressure on the council to build more legal tracks MAYBE
