Directions and notes

This trail is a fun and flowy historic tramway that use to connect the coal mine of Kaoota with the port at Margate. To access it from the bottom ride up Lawless rd all the way to the top and continue along the rough minor rd until you get an intersection next to a poor excuse of a quarry. Go straight ahead for about 15m then the tramway forks off to the right. From here it's about 3.5km of gentle climbing until the tramway pops you out on Kaoota Rd. Obviously you may prefer to access the tramway from the Kaoota end; a bit trickier to find, the tramway heads due south off the Kaoota rd where there's a small shoulder on the hill (there's a house on the shoulder). The entrance to the tramway is immediately next to the driveway of the house (skirt around the pile of dirt. Also the entrance is 1.75km from the Kaoota Rd/Pelverata Rd junction.
Some recent trail maintenance has improved access through the over grown bits and added a couple of fun features. Parts of the trail may be through private property so be respectful and ride at own risk. Look out for horses.

Hey Ben, you're right this trail is described in the Snug Tiers trail notes, I hadn't realised that. I think it warrants a seperate description anyway.

FYI this trail has now been 'groomed' as part of part the Rudd Govt Stimulus package - it's now more like the Pipeline track, a bit faster but less fun

Dupe.
This trail is already plotted and described in detail here:

FYI: Dupe = Duplicate.

Rode this trail last weekend-it seems as though the old tramway continues to the left of the quarry. I started to follow it for a few hundred meters and would have gone further if time had permitted. It is a bit overgrown in places but quite rideable.
Does any one know how much futher it goes??
